Philosophy of Practice
I, Yvonne Gray, believe in the power and strength of the families I serve. Healthy families lead to healthy communities, healthy societies, and better health for all people. I also believe that health starts during pregnancy in the womb and continues through the experiences of birth. Keeping birth at home in a supportive environment, while including the whole family makes it an unforgettable transforming event.
Ideally, giving birth is a joyful deeply personal experience that leaves a birther and their family in awe of their strength and in love with their baby. As midwives, we are privileged to support families through this best adventure – BIRTH. Our role as midwives is to encourage the birther in their ways of moving through pregnancy, labor, and birth. We work with them to promote a healthy pregnancy and provide education to help them make informed decisions about their care. Together with our clients, we carefully monitor the progress of the pregnancy and labor and recommend appropriate management if complications arise. The key elements of this education, monitoring and decision-making process are based on Evidenced-Based Practice and Informed Consent.
Evidence‐Based Practice refers to a thoughtful integration of the best available evidence, coupled with clinical expertise and our clients’ individual preferences. As such it enables midwives and their clients to address healthcare questions with an evaluative and qualitative approach. Evidence-based decisions flow from a process that includes the assessment of current and past research, clinical guidelines, and other information resources to determine the best course of care.
